Texarkana, Texas Police have arrested a man after officers discovered disturbing conditions inside a home on Rio Grande Street.
Last Friday, officers responded to the residence after receiving a Crime Stoppers tip from someone concerned about the welfare of the homeowner, identified as Bryant Savage. The caller reported that Savage had not left the home in nearly three weeks and that numerous cats were believed to be inside.
When officers and Animal Control arrived, they immediately noticed a strong odor of urine and feces coming from the house. Inside, investigators found the remains of numerous cats, along with dead snakes and spiders in enclosures. Authorities say the animals appeared to have died from starvation, and evidence suggested surviving cats had begun feeding on the remains.
Three cats were found alive and taken by Animal Control for treatment. Savage was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals and is currently being held in the Bi-State Jail on a $200,000 bond. Police say they are thankful to the person who reported the situation to Crime Stoppers.
