Spokesperson Amanda Keeney says the older poles have reached the end of their life and are being replaced with stronger, more durable ones. About 50 crews are already working in Texas and Louisiana, with Arkansas next on the list.
SWEPCO is working to limit service disruptions but urges customers to be cautious around crews and patient during the process. Any planned outages will be announced through door hangers or automated calls.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
