The State of Texas is investing in drone production at Red River Army Depot with a $5 million grant.
Governor Greg Abbott announced the funding, which was awarded to the Ark-Tex Council of Governments through the Texas Military Preparedness Commission.
Officials say the grant will create a partnership with Texarkana College and Texas A&M University-Texarkana to train workers in drone production.
The two-year grant will help purchase equipment and supplies needed for training, with leaders expecting the program to support workforce development and boost the local economy.
