Officers say someone walking near the creek bed — close to the Texarkana and Nash city limits on Highway 82 — spotted human bones on August 1. Only a few were recovered that day, as storms may have scattered others downstream.
With the help of search dogs from Texas Parks and Wildlife, investigators found additional evidence Tuesday in hopes of identifying the person.
Police spokesman Shawn Vaughn says there are missing persons cases in the area dating back several years, but it could take months — or longer — to determine who the remains belong to.
