Seven Bowie County departments, including Hooks Volunteer Fire Department, will share about $1.7 million in grants. Hooks plans to use its portion to buy a new water tank truck and slip-on unit.
Fire Chief Brandon Whitehurst says the funds will help provide better equipment and improve safety as call volumes continue to rise.
