As wildfires continue burning across Texas, firefighters from Texarkana are helping protect communities hundreds of miles from home.
Texarkana, Texas Fire Chief Chris Black recently returned from a two-week deployment with a TIFMAS strike team in North Texas. Crews battled several major fires fueled by drought, high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds.
The team that replaced them is now helping fight the massive Ross Fire in Palo Pinto and Jack counties, which has grown to around 80,000 acres.
Black says unless weather conditions improve soon, East Texas firefighters could be called back into action as the wildfire threat continues.
