A federal judge has denied the City of Texarkana's request to pause a civil lawsuit involving former police officer Zackary Gilley.
Gilley was arrested last year after being accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl during police ride-alongs while she was part of the department's Explorer Program, which introduces teens to careers in law enforcement. He had been with the department since 2018.
The lawsuit is seeking compensatory and punitive damages and will continue in U.S. District Court. Gilley is also scheduled to stand trial on the criminal charges beginning September 14.
