A new vending machine offering free Narcan, the emergency treatment used to reverse opioid overdoses, has been installed in the lobby of Randy Sams’ Outreach Center in Texarkana.
A second machine is now available in New Boston at the corner of East Hoskins and North Center streets. The project is a partnership between Heartstart Heroes and U.T. Health in San Antonio. Organizers say the Narcan is for anyone who may encounter an overdose emergency, not just drug users.
More than 600 boxes were taken during the first week, and officials hope to add more machines across the area.
